Although Public Liability insurance is a no longer a prerequisite for incorporation, and most Amateur Radio clubs are constituted as incorporated associations, the Wireless Institute of Australia nevertheless continues to arrange appropriate cover on a joint basis for those clubs affiliated with it, with premium payments based on each club's financial membership. The system has continued quite successfully, and the Great Lakes Radio Club Incorporated was able to affiliate with the Institute and participate in this insurance. A Certificate of Currency is supplied each year on payment of the premium. |
The Great Lakes Radio Club Incorporated is a completely autonomous body and is not subject to control by the WIA, although it is affiliated with this body and recognises it as representing the interests of Radio Amateurs at a national level. Club members are free to join and support the WIA, or any other representative body, as they see fit. Similarly, while individual members may choose to join WIA subsidiary organisations, such as the Wireless Institute Civil Emergency Network (WICEN), which is an accredited emergency communications group, the club’s involvement is a matter for decision by its members. The club is at present associated with WICEN through its president. |
